The ending was so rushed that I am still scratching my head and wondering 'what.?' It's like all of a sudden the author ran out of time and just threw it together. If you can write as eloquently as she did in the journal then you would also change your speech patterns correspondingly. I thought the difference in Luna's speech and her journal writing was ridiculous. It kind of drug on for too long without any changes being made. This book can stand alone but there is enough indication of where the next book can take us to keep our interest alive.ĭISLIKED: I thought the length of the relationship between the two main characters towards the middle of the book got a little boring. I appreciated that we weren't left with a huge cliff hanger at the end of this book. It did get a little bogged down at times. I could actually get a feel for the characters and the era in which the story took place. I thought the writing was very well done. I enjoyed the unusual slave/vampire twist of this book. I give this story 4 out of 5 clouds, and a strong parental (adult only) warning due to the violence. It will make you angry, happy, sad, and get your adrenalin pulsing. This story has scenes of rape, murder, demons, beating, the worst of slavery, and the best in humanity.

Well written, this story is not for the faint of heart or for children. Each page brings new enticing information to keep pulling you into the story. Through her we feel terror, horror, humor, romance, sex, safety, loss, joy, and sorrow. It is told from the view of a young woman who finds a journal telling the life's story of an ancestor of hers, Luna. She finds her only solace in a ruined chapel on the grounds of the plantation, but even that is no longer safe.

Her mother is sold away from her when she is a very young child and she has no-one else. Luna is a slave who is repeatedly sexually abused by her Master and then his son when he becomes the Master.
